The Darkness is a dark cloud of Shadow that nearly engulfs the Village during the events of Drawn to Life. The Hero cannot enter it, nor can any of the Raposa. It is also considered the absence of The Creator.

Even after the game is beaten, the darkness is not completely gone. It remains around the edges of the map and acts as a barrier to the player, but it has disappeared entirely by the time of Drawn to Life: The Next Chapter. This may be because there is no longer a need for a barrier since the game takes place mostly outside the Village.

After many levels, The Hero must clear a portion of the Darkness by tapping on the Eternal Flame. The black clouds then become a lighter grey, signaling that it is now possible to remove them. This is done by tapping on the faded clouds until there are none remaining.

TowerIcon Appearance[]

Darkness looks like large, puffy black/dark grey clouds, which turn a lighter grey before disappearing altogether.

Gears Story[]

The Darkness was created and controlled by Wilfre after he drew in the Book of Life.  After Wilfre had destroyed the Book, the Creator seemingly left the village, and his absence and Wilfre's reach are represented by the Darkness.

During Drawn to Life, the Hero may only clear the Darkness after he has cleared a level, and even then only a portion of it.  Each time this happens, a new part of the Village is revealed, whether it may be a location, building or a gate.

Question Trivia[]

  • After the completion of Drawn to Life, there is still a border of darkness around the village that acts as a barrier to the player.
    • However, after Wilfre is defeated, Jowee says that all the darkness is gone. This might be a mistake by the developers.
  • The darkness around the village does not appear in any of the other games in the series.
